Overview

Company director Andrew Pickering co-ordinates sales, licences and support for Scribe 2000.  He has been a Clerk of a Local Council and so fully understands the needs of the Clerk and RFO and the demands which are placed on them.

He was also employed as a Manager in Local Government for many years, with responsibility for development and support on a range of PC and Unix based computer systems, primarily related to Planning and Geographic Information Systems, so is also well positioned to support local councils in these areas.

The Scribe 2000 software range has been developed to suit Councils of virtually any size. The Accounts package is based on systems originally devised in collaboration with and tested by the Audit Commission. Guidance from CIPFA and NALC has also been incorporated in the Accounting software.

Continued dialogue with Local Council customers ensures that software remains appropriate for modern needs. Many customers have previously tried other software but now use Scribe 2000 because it is easy to use and works in the way the Council needs rather than being re-formed from a more commercial application.

In addition to the principal accounting software, Scribe 2000 provides modules for  local council functions such as processing planning applications and administering burial grounds.

Although created specifically for local councils, Scribe 2000 software can be used by community organisations who provide similar services, such as local charities or management bodies or, in the case of the Cemetery software, private burial grounds.

Scribe 2000 is independent and not attached to any other organisation. Prices do not include any commission for any other bodies. There is no other obligation (for instance to purchase hardware or training courses).

Origins

The Scribe project was a joint initiative in the 1980s by NALC (National Association of Local Councils); LAMSAC, the agency which later became the IDeA and is now Local Government (Improvement and Development); and Andrew Pickering, who at the time was a Clerk of a local council as well as working in IT in Local Government. Although products from a few other companies have been introduced onto the market since that time, Scribe 2000 Ltd is the company which has from those early days continued the Scribe tradition.

Additional software development and testing is now being provided by third party developers, to meet specifications and designs set down by Scribe 2000 to ensure continuation of our high standards. Additional advice for accounting questions is also available externally from auditors and experienced users.
