Overview of Scribe 2000

The Scribe 2000 software range has been developed to suit Councils of any size, and is based on systems derived from dialogue with and testing by the Audit Commission. Guidance from CIPFA and NALC has also been incorporated in the Accounting software.

Continued dialogue with Local Councils ensures that software remains appropriate for modern needs. Many customers have previously tried other software but now use Scribe 2000 because it is easy to use, is well supported, and works in the way the Council needs.

In addition to the principal accounting software, Scribe 2000 provides modules for a variety of local council services.

Although created specifically for local councils, Scribe 2000 software can be used for community organisations who provide similar services, such as local charities or management bodies or, in the case of the Cemetery software, private burial grounds.

Scribe 2000 is independent and not attached to any other organisation. Prices do not include any commission for any other bodies, and there is no other obligation (for instance to purchase hardware or training).

Our Origins

The Scribe project was a joint initiative in the 1980s by NALC (National Association of Local Councils), the agency which is now the IDeA (Improvement and Development Agency), and Andrew Pickering, who at the time was a Clerk of a local council as well as working in IT in Local Government. Although products from a few other companies have been introduced onto the market since that time, Scribe 2000 remains the current software range provided by Andrew Pickering and his associates.

Andrew Pickering co-ordinates sales, licences and web support for Scribe 2000. He was employed as a Manager in Local Government for many years, with responsibility for development and support on a range of PC and Unix based computer systems, primarily related to Planning and Geographic Information Systems. He was a part-time Clerk of a Local Council for 12 years.

Development of for Scribe 2000 is provided by Brian Johnson. Qualified in engineering, Brian was formerly a Manager and Director in the production world for many years, including being a driving force in the implementation of IT systems. He has worked as a Consultant for individual Councils and has taken over the ongoing development of Scribe 2000 software and technical support.
